A thought on assimilation
Just watched Lateline. There was a debate between Gerard Henderson and the insufferably smug Henry Reynolds. Reynolds wheeled out the ol' PC point that the assimilationist policies of the past were designed to make the Aborigines "disappear". Ironic, considering that current politically correct separatist policies are meant to make Aborigines disappear ... from view. Then sanctimonious fantasists can paint over the gruesome reality of their wretched lives with Rousseavian crap; saying everything's hunky dory 'cause they're honouring their culture, etc.
This idea that assimilation and intermarriage between black and white constitute genocide is utter garbage. It's a truly twisted attitude that would make even ol' hippy lefty songs seem like hate speech.
