I have it on pretty good authority that feminists don't like it when women are commodified in a capitalist system.
And here's a perfect example of that. Natalie Dylan is auctioning off her virginity to the highest bidder.
The fact that she has instigated the auction herself shouldn't contradict the feminist perception of her as a victim. She could be participating in her own oppression, after all. (And if so, she's certainly participating big time.)
But intriguingly she has a degree in Women's Studies. Aren't those courses designed to prevent such exploitation?
Hmmm. Maybe she's doing it to rebel against the teachings? Or perhaps feminism has done a u-turn these last few years? Or could it be that since capitalism has actually died and Marxism is ascendant that "all bets are off", as they say?
On the other hand, she could be applying what she learned at uni. Maybe it's a subversive act of paradigm-busting. You know, a culture jamming exercise to make a political point?
Sheesh. I dunno ...
Still, good luck to her. And she seems to be doing very well. The top bidder is offering well over 3 million bucks. A sterling achievement in these cash-strapped times. (That, or the bloke is from Zimbabwe.)
